Written by Gale Nelson, printed in the Albert Lea Tribune –

Patriots feel a deep sense of devotion, love and loyal support for their country. American patriotism may be expressed through our words, but more so through our actions! Actions like treating fellow citizens with respect and kindness, praying for our country and its leaders, and voting in elections. I am thankful for the patriotic community actions of Albert Lea and other surrounding communities when they hosted such great patriotic events to honor America’s 250th birthday.

This summer when you drive down Bridge Avenue in Albert Lea, I hope you enjoy the flags along the fence line at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. These flags are courtesy of the local group “Patriots for Jesus. This group gifted Albert Lea with American flags to help paint our community in “red, white and blue” for the celebratory year of 2026 and years to follow. “Patriots for Jesus” is a group of local citizens whose mission is to publicly promote Christian patriotism.

As I see my flag, “Old Glory,” wave in the wind, I am reminded of the blessing of freedom that God has provided in our land. I appreciate and am thankful for the men and women who have sacrificed to preserve our American freedoms. May God continue to bless America and its patriots.
