Hello Friends: Dale Witherington here with RestoreMN. Today is Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Today’s commentary is in the form of a question:

Why are Minnesota’s lawmakers, particularly the chairs of the appropriate House and Senate Committees, unwilling to give a hearing to proposed legislation designed to protect Minnesota’s children from sexual predators?

The number of Minnesotans being abused and sexually trafficked every day in Minnesota is staggering. Please watch this short video to learn the basics and to know what specific actions to take. Also, go to www.cplaction.com and, on the homepage, scroll down and watch the 25-minute presentation "Shattered". You'll be ready to take the recommended action.

It’s true. And the number of victims is staggering.

According to State Representative Matt Grossell (R-2A) and former law enforcement officer, Jessica Bartholomew, now the leader of A.C.T. United,

  • Over 12,000 Minnesotans are trafficked every day!
  • Over 5,000 of these are children ranging from teenagers to infants just a few months old.
  • These numbers reflect every one of Minnesota’s 87 counties and place Minnesota with the 3rd highest rate of child exploitation crimes in the nation. A child here is defined as 0 -18 years of age.

Friends, too many of Minnesota’s predators are predators because Minnesota has the ignominious reputation of being one of the weakest states in the nation in convicting predators of heinous sexual and human abuse crimes against human beings created in the image of God, and especially against children.

All victims lives are priceless and invaluable, no matter the age. It’s time to send predators a message they will not soon forget. We must move to protect our children and end human trafficking in Minnesota. Part of that protection includes prison time, not release time, for convicted offenders.

House files 229 and 226 MUST get a hearing. If you will help spread this message through your networks in Minnesota, we will reach somewhere between 100,000 and 250,000 people. We need all of us to contact the two chairs and respectfully request they not only hear but also support bills authored by Rep. Grossell to protect Minnesota’s children and other trafficked victims and put the fear of God into criminal predators with mandatory minimum prison sentences as suggested in the new legislation.

Please contact State Representative Carlos Mariani and Senator Warren Limmer. Please call them AND write them. Do both. And get everyone in your sphere of influence to do the same. Rep. Mariani can be reached at 651.296.9714 and via email at rep.carlos.mariani@house.mn. Senator Limmer can be reached at 651.296.2159 AND emailed on his Senate page on the state website.

This is legislation that is blind to party affiliation. This is about 12,000 Minnesotans being abused and victimized every single day in Minnesota. More that 5,000 are our children. What if one of them was yours.

It’s time to protect Minnesotans and our children from criminal sexual predators and abusers. It’s time we protect the victims and punish the criminals.

Help us stop human trafficking in Minnesota.
